3 simple ways to care for your mental health

by Coco Veda Team June 20, 2022

“What mental health needs is more sunlight, more candor, and more unashamed conversation.” – Glenn Close

All of us have our own mental health that we need to nurture and protect. Mental health is not something that we should only pay attention to once we are clinically diagnosed with depression, anxiety or other forms of mental health conditions. Similar to our physical health, we need to exercise, form healthy habits and keep our mental health in check. What do you do to care for yours?

1. It is okay to take a break

You are not wasting time or opportunities if you take a break. At times when we are too focused on achieving our goals, we overwork our bodies. We need to remember that the human body is not built to work without recharging itself. It is natural for our bodies and minds to feel overwhelmed and stressed when the workload gets too heavy. It is okay to take a step back and clear your mind off things.

2. Reflect

Reflection can come in different forms. There are people who prefer journaling, talking to a friend or even spending time alone to think things through. Try to find the method that works best for you and find time in your daily routine to fit in some self-reflection.

Reflection helps you carefully assess your actions and process all the events that have happened in your life. This will make you realize the things you need to improve on or allow you to release your emotions and prevent them from bottling up. The earlier you address your emotions, the lighter and happier you will feel. Other than that, it will increase your level of self-awareness and help you cultivate a healthier relationship with yourself.

3. Wellness Massage Oils

If your schedule is not permitting you to take a break or get some self-time to reflect, you can get some wellness massage oils to help you distress and boost your mood. Coco Veda has a wide range of wellness massage oils that are formulated to activate positive and balanced energy. All you need to do is massage them regularly onto affected areas or pressure points to calm, relax and soothe your full body. It is also small in size so you can carry it around to your workplace or school.

3 Easy Eco-Friendly Cleaning Hacks

by Coco Veda Team June 13, 2022

Cleaning our homes is an important daily task to keep our minds and bodies healthy. When we have a clean space, we have a clearer mind and are less prone to getting sick. However, this may not be the case for our environment. When we are cleaning, we dispose a lot of our trash, tissues and use a lot of water. In order to ensure we do not harm our environment, we need to get rid of our wasteful cleaning practices. If you are wondering how to adopt a more eco-friendly cleaning habit, here are 3 eco-friendly cleaning hacks we have gathered for your next cleaning schedule.

1. Rags

Instead of purchasing brand new rags, make use of your pre-loved clothes! You can cut-up your old 100% cotton t-shirts to make the best washable, reusable and eco-friendly cleaning rags

2. Lemon and Kosher Salt

Get half a lemon and dip it in kosher salt. You can use this to take off coax hard water stains off your glass shower doors. All you need to do is embrace the lemon in the elbow grease. This will help you save water as the stains should get off quite easily as compared to the traditional way of scrubbing it and washing with water.

3. Eco-Friendly Products

Get a hold of eco-friendly products. Coco Veda’s cleaning products are waterless which means a bottle can go a long way. This is a more sustainable way of cleaning since you do not have to keep re-purchasing the product resulting in less waste. Our packaging is also reusable, refillable and recyclable.

There are several ways to make cleaning more eco-friendly. One of the most important thing we have to remember is to be wary about our trash and water usage. Let us avoid using excessive amounts of tissue or water to reduce our ecological footprint. Focus more on using reusable products such as rags instead of tissues. As we form the healthy habit of cleaning our environment at home, let us not forget about our environment outside. We can be kind to our planet without compromising our needs. Choose to clean responsibly and adopt these eco-friendly practices.

5 Ways to Stop Hair Loss

by Coco Veda Team May 13, 2022

Did you know that 50% of women will experience hair loss in their lifetime, and 60% of men will have to suffer from hair loss by age 50? With these significant percentages, you may be curious to learn more about this condition. In this blog, we will be discussing 5 ways to fight and stop Hair Loss.

“Treat your hair like a science lab experiment” – Neal Wolf

1) Eat More Protein

Your hair requires protein called amino acids to grow. The human body can produce 11 of the 20 amino acids, but the remaining 9 has to come from food consumption. The healthy amount of protein intake for women is 46g and the intake for men is 56g. If you do not get enough protein for about 2 to 3 months, you may start to notice hair loss. Some examples of protein-rich food to ensure a healthy growing hair include nuts and nut butters, seeds, soy products like tofu and tempeh, legumes like beans and lentils as well as whole grains.

2) Avoid Harsh Treatments

Stay away from heating tools such blow dryers, straighteners or curlers. Allow your hair to dry naturally to avoid damaging it with the heat from hair equipment. Hair dyes and bleaching can also cause a lot of damage to your hair, so avoid these harsh treatments and keep your hair healthy. Lastly, try not to tie your hair or loosen it up when tying ponytails or braids. This is to prevent pulling the hair that can lead to a receding hairline.

3) Green Tea Rinse

Green tea is known to be rich in catechins. This helps in reducing dihydrotestosterone (DTH), which is a hormone that can shrink your hair follicles. Furthermore, green tea is also effective in fighting dandruff and prevents scalp dryness.

4) Scalp massage

You can help to stimulate your scalp and improve blood flow to the follicles by massaging your scalp gently 1-2 times a week. You can use the Coco Veda Virgin Coconut Oil for this as a natural option.

5) Coco Veda Anti Hair Fall Products

The Coco Veda Anti Hair Fall Shampoo is a natural coconut based shampoo with essential oils of lemon and rosemary to support those experiencing hair fall. It is rich in essential oils to nourish the hair and scalp. This shampoo also strengthens hair roots and stimulates hair growth. This oil treatment contains an effective herb called (Neem) which is known for its medicinal properties to aid hair loss. Furthermore, it helps the hair follicles to become stronger and also encourage hair growth.

4 Ways to Help on Earth Day 2022

by Coco Veda Team April 18, 2022

Earth Day is commemorated every year on April 22. It is an environmental movement that aims to raise awareness about pollution and ways to maintain a clean habitat. In recent years, the world has been experiencing more and more calamities brought about by climate change. There has been an increased number of floods, typhoons, droughts and other catastrophic events. The intensity of this problem is further highlighted as recently over 1000 scientists from 25 different countries protested after the release of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s new report. The protest was to stress on the urgency and injustice of the climate and ecological crisis with an IPCC report stating that the world only has 3 years to mitigate the worst of climate change. Hence, Earth Day 2022 is very crucial for us to participate in to make as much impact to heal our planet.

History

Most of us have heard about Earth Day. However, do you know why we celebrate this day? This day was first observed after a massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, California in 1969. It was the largest oil spill in United States waters by that time. The spill had devastating effects on marine life, killing an estimated 3,500 sea birds, and marine animals such as dolphins, elephant seals , and sea lions. As a result of this catastrophic event, U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson rallied national support for environmental protection and safer industrial regulations. Earth Day then led to the foundation of the Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and the Endangered Species Act. In 1990, Earth Day garnered more recognition with over 200 million people participating in 141 countries. The success of the movement increased worldwide recycling efforts and led to the formation of the United Nations Earth Summit in 1992.

Earth Day 2022

The theme for this year’s Earth Day is to “Invest in our Planet”. This is a collective effort and we need to unite in order to save the Earth. We need to take concrete steps to restore nature and live more sustainable lives to ensure that our planet stays habitable for the next generations to come. If you are eager to help but you are unsure how, we have collated a list of activities and organisations you can support in Singapore for Earth Day 2022.

5 Ways to Have a Great Easter Sunday Celebration

by Coco Veda Team April 11, 2022

Easter Sunday is not commemorated on the same day every year. It is observed on a Sunday between March 22 and April 25. This year the event falls on April 17. You may be wondering how the Easter Date is determined. Easter always occurs on the first Sunday after the Paschal Full Moon. The Paschal Full Moon is the first Full Moon of spring. Easter Sunday is a joyous event for Christians as it commemorates the defeat of death and the hope of salvation in the religion. If you are not familiar with the holiday and how it is celebrated, this blog can give you a better glimpse of how Christians observe this day with 5 Easter Activity Ideas.

1. Decorate Easter Eggs

One of the more famous ways to celebrate Easter Sunday is to decorate easter eggs. This would be a great activity to have with your children or even as a Family. All you need is some art materials and a few fake or real eggs and decorate them as you wish. There are no rules to this. You can use markers, glitter or paint and get creative with decorating your very own easter egg!

2. Have an Egg Hunt

If you have a large space that is safe for children to run and play around, an egg hunt activity will be perfect for Easter. You can purchase fake Easter eggs in your local crafting store and place some candy inside. After which, you can hide it around your house or backyard for your children to find. This would be a great and memorable activity to do as a family, and I am sure your children will have a lot of fun playing this!

3. Attend a Church Service

Easter is a merry celebration with plenty of fun activities but we should not forget the root of this celebration. It is a religious event for Christians and if you are one, it is important to acknowledge this day and attend your local church service.

4. Spend time with your loved ones

All of us may have different cultures, religions or family backgrounds. However, one thing that humans have in common is that we require connection with other people. Celebrations like Easter gives us the opportunity to reconnect with our loved ones and make memories we can look back on. Don’t forget to take pictures and videos if you are planning a gathering with your family and friends! Capture those memorable moments.

5. Spend time with yourself

Other than spending time with your loved ones, spending time with yourself is also really important. If you are a Christian, you can use this day to journal and reflect about yourself and how you can grow in your faith. It can be as simple as participating in more church activities, reading your bible more often or setting aside more time in the day for prayer. However, if you are not a Christian, you can definitely use this day to treat yourself! Since Easter always falls on a Sunday, you can have a Sunday reset treat and shop for some Health and Wellness products to care for your holistic health. Earth Hour 2022: Protect the Earth Today and Shape our Future

by Coco Veda Team March 28, 2022

“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.” – Mahatma Gandhi

Earth Hour is celebrated annually. It is observed on the last Saturday of March to bring everyone together and raise awareness about environmental issues. This is not just an event but a movement that invites people from all walks of life to fight for the same planet we all inhabit.

What do we do on Earth Hour?

“One day of Earth Hour is not enough to Save our Earth, but we should follow it everyday in our life.” – Arabinda Bose

On this day, the world comes together to switch off their lights and show their support for the efforts to fight climate change. Earth hour was first observed in 2007. This was initiated by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and partners. The symbolic lights-out event embarked its journey in Sydney and is now celebrated in more than 190 countries and territories. Over the years, Earth Hour has not only become a lights-out event, but this has encouraged several movements, campaigns and concrete actions to help the environment.

Positive Impacts of Earth Hour

“A nation that destroys its soil destroys itself. Forests are the lungs of our land, purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt

The first Earth Hour celebration in Sydney saw more than 2.2 million people participating in the event by turning off their lights for one hour. This showed the massive support of the people and a great kick-off to this remarkable movement.

In 2009, Earth Hour broke the record by being the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment. This was followed by a significant change in 2012 where over 122,000 signatures for a petition led by WWF-Russia, led to Russia passing a law that will better protect the country’s seas from oil pollution.

In the next year, more concrete actions were made such as the 2,700 hectares of land established by WWF-Uganda which became the first-ever Earth Hour forest. On top of that, Earth Hour also helped in tripling the area of protected waters in Argentina with the creation of the 3.4 million hectare Banco Namuncura (Burdwood Bank). This is the largest marine protected area in the country. There is a long list of positive impacts brought about by this event and Earth Hour continues to make meaningful impacts to our environment as it continues to be celebrated in March every year.

Earth Hour Theme 2022

“You are failing us. But the young people are starting to understand your betrayal.” – Greta Thunberg

This year, we have celebrated Earth Hour on the 26th of March, Saturday at 8.30-9.30pm. The theme for this year is “Shape our Future”. This highlights the importance of making changes and uniting as a society to protect the Earth for the future generations inhabiting it. We need to come together to raise awareness and act on effective solutions to stop the damages in our climate. It is a pivotal year for everyone to realize the massive damage we have caused our planet, and impose a sense of urgency to make changes in order to keep the riches and beauty of the world for years to come.

Environmental Issues

“I want you to act as if our house is on fire. Because it is.” – Greta Thunberg

Environmental issues are problems with the planet’s systems (air, water, soil etc.) that were a result of human interference or mistreatment of the planet. There are several major environmental catastrophes we are facing due to our lack of responsibility to care for our planet. For instance, Australia and the US have experienced some of the most devastating bushfire seasons ever recorded. There has also been microplastic found in Antarctic ice for the first time. Furthermore, there was a heatwave in Antarctica with temperature rising above 20 degrees. In California, there have been record-breaking wildfires that have blocked out the sun. Our planet is poised on the brink of a major environmental crisis with disasters and tragedies getting more destructive if we continue our harmful and unsustainable ways of living.

How can we help?

“You must unite behind the science. You must take action. You must do the impossible. Because giving up can never be an option.” – Greta Thunberg

One of the ways we can make our voice heard is to participate in events or movements such as Earth Hour. If we come together and unite, we can amplify our voices to be heard by the leaders and decision-makers. We have proven the effectiveness of unity with the petition signed in Russia to pass the law for the protection of the country’s seas from oil pollution.

Another way we can contribute is by volunteering. In Singapore, there are a lot of opportunities you can join to volunteer and make a difference. One of them would be signing up to be a SG Clean Ambassador. This will allow you to take part in outreach activities that help raise awareness and encourage adoption of SG Clean measures in the wider community. People’s Association Youth Movement (PAYM) is another volunteer opportunity you can participate in. With the growing interest of youth in the environment, PAYM50Green Campaign was established. This supports the Youth Networks in organizing ground-up initiatives across Singapore in 3 main areas, projects relating to the 5Rs (Recycle, Reuse, Reduce, Refuse, Rot), community clean-up, and coastal clean-up with kayaking.

Lastly, we can integrate more sustainable and eco-friendly habits in our daily lives. We can do so by supporting brands that are eco-conscious and practice responsible production. In support of the environment, Coco Veda has created the 5R’s Philosophy – Reduce, Reuse, Refill, Recycle and Rethink. As a result of this, over 60% of our product packaging is in glass and the remaining is Reusable, Refillable and Recyclable plastic. Since all of Coco Veda’s products are pure, concentrated and long lasting, this minimizes packaging consumption by over 50% as opposed to the industry benchmarks for similar products.
